** Lending criteria and terms and conditions apply to the student travel loan. Applicants must be aged 18 or over and a parental guarantee may be required. Applicants must be students attending a full-time 3rd level course.Proof will be required. The travel loan must be fully repaid within 9 months to avoid interest charges. If the customer is unable to repay the loan within the 9 month period they must notify their branch and the loan can be restructured into a normal student loan. The standard student variable interest rate (currently 10.8% APR variable, correct as at 2nd November 2009 and subject to change) will apply on any outstanding balances. The repayments on a typical student loan of €1,000 over 12 months are €88.06 per month based on a variable rate of 10.8% APR and not including payment protection. The total cost of credit is €56.72. Bank of Ireland is regulated by the Financial Regulator.

Applying in any USIT Branch

Application Form

To get a €99 J1 Programme Fee, you must apply for the J1 through any USIT branch, Online or by post.

For bookings made in a USIT branch, applicants must have their completed forms and back up documentation (copy of valid passport, etc.) to USIT at time of booking. You must book your flights at time of booking.

Online applicants must send their completed forms and back up documentation (copy of valid passport etc) to USIT within 10 working days of initial application date.  You will receive a call from USIT once your application forms have been received at which time you must reserve your flights.  USIT are not responsible for any delays due to postage or missing applications.  This is entirely the responsibility of the applicant.

Postal applications must be sent to USIT, 19-21 Aston Quay, O’Connell Bridge, Dublin 2 along with a completed application form and back up documentation and deposit.  Once your application documents and deposit have been received, USIT will contact you to reserve your flights.

You will be entitled to 1 Free Date Change AND 1 Free Route Change up to the 19th February 2010.

What You Need To Apply?

All Applicants

  • Completed J1 application form with all sections completed, stamped and signed by you and your college
  • Photocopy of passport 'Bio Page.' Irish and EU passports must be valid until your return date. All other passports must be valid for 6 months after your return date
  • USIT programme participant interview. All applicants must complete a personal questionnaire either in a USIT branch or at time of your US Embassy Interview

Applicants with
Prearranged US Job

  • Employment Offer Agreement form (EOAF) The official employer agreement form (available online) should be submitted to USIT before departure

Repeat J1
applicants

  • Photocopy of previous J1 visa, or IAP 66, or DS 2019 (DO NOT send originals)

Foreign
nationals

  • One photocopy of your Irish visa if you require a visa to live or study in Ireland

Applications are accepted subject to further eligibility checks by programme sponsors. All visas are issued at the discretion of the relevant US Embassy. USIT cannot accept any liability should you not be granted a visa. If you are refused a visa, full cancellation fees will apply.

The J1 Programme is subject to the terms & conditions

This offer applies to the 2010 J1 Independent Programme Fee valued at €279.

This offer is open to full-time 3rd level students, who are ordinarily eligible for the J1 Programme and who apply in person, online or online with completed application forms and any relevant support documentation required within the time frames specified and while places are available.  Applications made in person are advisable and ensure speedy processing.

Helpful Hints

  1. Check the validity of your passport. Irish, British or EU Passports must be valid for the full duration of the participants J-1 WAT visa (max 4 month work period plus 30 days travel period). All other nationalities must have a passport valid until at least 10th May 2011.
  2. Check there are no errors on your passport. Make sure your personal details match those on your birth certificate, and that all names and places have been spelled correctly.
  3. Passports must be in pristine condition. The Embassy will not issue a visa onto a torn or tatty passport. If your passport is damaged in any way, please apply for a new one before submitting your J-1 Work and Travel application form.
